Authorities in our business will tell in no uncertain terms that Lorem Ipsum is that huge, huge no no to forswear forever. Not so fast, I'd say, there are some redeeming factors in favor of greeking text, as its use is merely the symptom of a worse problem to take into consideration.
Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox, as things happen, not always the way you like it, not always in the preferred order.

Vintage PostCard Netsuke – Daikoku by Master Masanori
This exquisite Vintage PostCard Netsuke depicts Daikoku, the deity of happiness and wealth, crafted by the renowned Master Masanori. Made from ivory and intricately carved, this netsuke stands at 9.2 cm tall. The postcard itself measures 15 x 10.7 cm (5 7/8″ x 4 3/16″) and was published by the Fine Arts Publishing House in Moscow in 1983. The State Museum of Art of the Peoples of the East holds this remarkable piece in its collection.
During the late Japanese Middle Ages, the cult of the seven gods of happiness, known as Shichifukujin, fully established itself. Among them, Daikoku, the deity of happiness, wealth, and health, became particularly popular. In Japanese sculpture, artists often portray Daikoku as a cheerful, rotund man with a round cap on his head and a magic beater (utside) in his hands. Consequently, his image became a symbol of joy and prosperity.
Master Masanori’s depiction includes a large straw sack of rice with rats sitting on it, symbolizing abundance and prosperity. For the Japanese, rice personified wealth, and where there was a large stock of rice, there were also rats. This imagery ties into a legend where a rat saved Daikoku from disgrace, symbolizing his benevolent nature. Thus, the netsuke not only represents artistic skill but also cultural richness.
Masanori’s portrayal of Daikoku is earthy and humanized. The deity has thick cheeks, sly eyes, and a laughing mouth. His stretched earlobes signify his readiness to listen to the prayers of those who seek his blessings. The squat figure, gazing forward, exudes calmness and prosperity. Additionally, the rounded forms of the sculpture, the soft modeling of the kimono’s folds, and the glossy finish of the carefully polished bone enhance the feeling of contentment and joy.
Collectors of Japanese art and those interested in cultural heritage will find this Daikoku netsuke an invaluable addition. Feel free to contact us for additional photos or any further questions. This netsuke embodies the elegance and depth of Japanese artistic traditions. Therefore, it is a must-have for any serious collector.
