The Green Frog Cascade Salad Bowl by Josiah Wedgwood, crafted between 1773 and 1774, features a view of the Cascade in the Park of Envil, Staffordshire. This creamware piece stands 7 cm tall and has a diameter of 24.5 cm.
Created for Catherine II, this bowl is part of the Green Frog Service, renowned for its artistic and historical significance. The service includes 952 pieces with 1,244 views of Great Britain. Today, 770 pieces remain.
The Green Frog Service captures 18th-century life, featuring parks, country houses, and ancient ruins. The Cascade Salad Bowl exemplifies Wedgwood’s craftsmanship and the service’s historical importance. Before shipping to Russia in 1774, the service was displayed in London. It was housed in Chesme Palace until 1830 and later in the English Palace at Peterhof. Since 1910, the Hermitage Museum has preserved this exquisite piece of decorative art.
