About the film director Yakov Alexandrovich Protazanov, director of such films as “Marionettes”, “The Feast of St. Jorgen”, “Bespridannitsa” and many others, has been written many times. With his biography introduced readers MN Aleynikov. Twice published a book “Yakov Protazanov” – a large collection of memoirs of contemporaries and articles by film historians. And yet, despite the apparent bibliographic well-being, the book by Mikhail Arlazorov in a new way reveals the image of Protazanov and significantly expands our understanding of the outstanding director. The author has tracked down many previously unknown materials and documents. Almost all information is obtained, as they say, firsthand, from personal and state archives, from people who knew Yakov Alexandrovich well.

Автор разыскал много ранее неизвестных материалов и документов. Почти вся информация получена, как говорится, из первых рук, из личных и государственных архивов, от людей, хорошо знавших Якова Александровича.
